It was an early flight back from Kiruna to Stockholm with norwegian.no

We had booked a taxi last night and it appeared we had booked the last one! There musn’t be many taxis in Kiruna…we paid ?30 between us for a 15 minute journey.

The flight back was great…well apart from the guy who appeared to be having a mini-heart attack or stroke mid-flight. Fortunately there was a Doctor on board who was able to administer oxygen etc and the guy seemed ok by the end of the flight. I didn’t see the drama unfold but Paul said he appeared to loose consciousness and his wife couldn’t wake him up. When we got to Stockholm he was met by an emergency team. Hopefully he returned home fine – he walked off the plane at Stockholm.

We arrived in Stockholm at about 10.30am. We debated about taking the fast train – took 20mins but cost ?20 each way. We asked about taxis and it would cost ?50 one way. The journey took 3/4hr and we arrived in comfort at the Time Hotel only to find we couldn’t check-in till 2pm.

We had discussed taking a bus and boat tour which was ?37 each. The weather – very cold and blizzardy – made us decide it was a great option.

Firstly, though, we needed food and drinks. We had a wander and Susie and I opted for Wayne’s Coffee which, on reflection, we decided was a bad idea. I had a weak hot chocolate and not great panini, and Susie had a panini and scone. Bizarrely, as Susie went to select her scone from the counter the server said "Oh don’t chose one of those. They are for display only"

The company, City Sightseeing, picked us up at our hotel because we were buying more than 2 tickets. Bonus!

We got dropped at the start point outside the Dance Museum on Gustav Aldofs Torg. We bought the tickets and headed into the Dance Museum as the bus wasn’t ready. We were already glad we had chosen this ‘lazy’ option!

The bus and boat together took about 2hrs 45mins. We travelled on a glass-windowed bus (the type is surround vision) and an ice-breaking boat.

The tour was really interesting and told us lots about Stockholm and Sweden.

The early flight and the motion of the bus sent us all, at one stage or other, into a light doze. We all nodded off. Getting the boat was the short sharp shock we needed! It was a bit cold inside (although they provided blankets) but it was f-f-f-freezing outside, plus it was windy.

We were dropped by the boat to a harbour area not far from the shopping centres. We decided to walk, and got to Gallerian, a huge indoor shopping centre / mall. It was nice and warm inside. We had a quick peak around the shops before eventually finding a Tunnelbana stop at T-Centralen that took us to Odenplan on the green line.

From there we walked back to the hotel and got to our rooms….

The Time Hotel was really lovely inside. Built a year or so ago it was very modern and the rooms were very nice.

Paul and I were exhausted from our early flight, bus and boat trip, shopping and walk back to hotel so we crashed on the bed watching trash TV.

By 7pm we decided we needed to get ready for tea. I showered (which was a blessed relief) whilst Paul consults with Stephen and Susie about where to eat. We decided to go local – Paul has discovered some possibilities including a Greek place which we ended up at and which was very nice.

Before going out I realised I hadn’t taken any pics of my engagement ring so we spent 10 mins or so trying to get a decent shot. I decided it didn’t look quite right on my own – I wanted Paul and his engagement ‘band’ to be in the pic as well.
